Jacob Elordi was visibly moved at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, shedding tears during a 13-minute standing ovation for his new film, Frankenstein, according to ew.com. The Euphoria star, who plays the iconic Monster, was captured on video wiping away tears as he and his castmates Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth basked in the crowd’s uproarious response.
The premiere marked a significant moment for the film, which is currently vying for the prestigious Golden Lion award. Guillermo del Toro’s take on the classic Mary Shelley novel is being hailed as a more faithful adaptation than some recent interpretations, including Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things.
Elordi’s powerful portrayal of the Monster has been a personal journey for the actor. He recently shared that the character feels like “the sort of purest form of myself.” The role was originally intended for Andrew Garfield, but Elordi stepped in after scheduling conflicts arose. This marks his second major Venice premiere, following his acclaimed performance in Priscilla in 2023.
The early reception suggests that del Toro’s Frankenstein could be a major contender this awards season, cementing Elordi’s growing reputation as a versatile dramatic actor.
