Lionsgate has unveiled the highly-anticipated first trailer for “Michael,” the upcoming biographical film chronicling the life and enduring legacy of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, per variety.com. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by Oscar-nominated John Logan, the biopic is set for release in theatres on April 24, 2026.
In a stunning feature film debut, Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, steps into his uncle’s iconic dancing shoes to portray the global superstar.

The trailer sets a powerful tone, opening with a scene of Jackson in the studio with legendary producer Quincy Jones (Kendrick Sampson), who says: “I know you’ve been waiting a long time for this. The tracks are made, the songs are ready. Let’s take it from the top.” This dialogue launches a montage of clips showing Jackson’s childhood, iconic performances, and music videos – including a flash of “Thriller” – all set to the pulse of his 1982 hit, “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.”
The film’s synopsis describes “Michael” as an exploration of the superstar’s journey to global fame, offering an intimate look at one of the world’s most influential and trailblazing artists. The project aims to highlight his life both on- and off-stage, tracing his evolution from a young talent in The Jackson 5 to the visionary solo artist.
The ensemble cast features a lineup of stars playing key figures in Jackson’s life and career: Jaafar Jackson as Michael Jackson, Colman Domingo (Oscar nominee) as his father, Joe Jackson, Nia Long as his mother, Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as Jackson’s attorney and adviser, John Branca, Kendrick Sampson as industry icon, Quincy Jones, Larenz Tate as Motown Records founder, Berry Gordy, Laura Harrier as music executive, Suzanne de Passe and Kat Graham as Diana Ross.
The biopic is produced by Graham King (who produced Bohemian Rhapsody), John Branca, and John McClain. The theatrical teaser is scheduled to debut ahead of the upcoming film, “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.”
