Those who never saw Ije: The Journey by Chineze Anyaene-Abonyi when it took the Nigerian cinema by storm in 2010 and beyond, or even those who saw the film that broke box office records will get a chance to see it again when it gets to Netflix on August 3.
The filmmaker made this known on social media when she posted the announcement that Ije, starring Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde as sisters, will come to the global streaming service in a few days from now.
“I’m excited to announce my multi-award-winning feature film and the highest-grossing Nigerian box office movie from 2010-2015 Ije: The Journey. A movie which redefined the industry and the cinema experience in Nigeria,” her post says.
Anyaene-Abonyi goes on to reveal that the film was her MFA thesis at the New York Film Academy shot on 35mm film produced and directed by her.
“This is for the Nigerians who did not experience the awesomeness of this classic movie due to their age as at when released, and for the fans who have been asking me to put the film out. I hope you enjoy this great classic performance”.
