Loni Anderson, the celebrated actress best known for her role as the savvy receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on the hit sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” has died. CNN reports she was 79.
According to the outlet, Anderson passed away at a Los Angeles hospital on Sunday following a prolonged illness, just days before her 80th birthday. Her publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, confirmed the news, and her family released a statement mourning the loss.
“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” the statement read.
From 1978 to 1982, Anderson charmed audiences as Jennifer Marlowe, the intelligent and glamorous receptionist at a struggling Ohio radio station. Despite the chaos surrounding her, Jennifer’s wit and efficiency often saved the day. The role made her a television icon and earned her two Emmy and three Golden Globe nominations.
Beyond her most famous role, Anderson’s career extended to the big screen, where she co-starred with her future husband, Burt Reynolds, in the 1983 comedy “Stroker Ace.” The high-profile couple became a tabloid fixture before their divorce in 1994.
Anderson is survived by her husband, Bob Flick; her children, Deidra and Quinton; and several grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
