Fenway concerts axed last minute due to safety concerns

Music fans in Boston were left disappointed this week as two major concerts at Fenway Park, Shakira’s “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour stop and a joint show featuring Jason Aldean and Brooks & Dunn, were abruptly cancelled just hours before showtime, per rollingstone.com. The cancellations, announced by Live Nation, have been attributed to unexpected structural issues at the iconic venue.

Shakira, who had been eagerly anticipating her May 29 performance, the inaugural show of the 2025 Fenway Concert Series, shared her excitement on social media, even teasing special appearances from Will.i.am and Wyclef Jean. However, those plans were dashed when Live Nation released a statement citing “unforeseen circumstances” for both her show and the May 30 country music event.

A source close to the situation revealed that routine pre-show checks identified structural elements that did not meet safety standards. Boston’s 7News further reported that the inspectional services department flagged a safety concern during their final sign-off on the stage structure, leading to the immediate cancellation of both performances.

While representatives for the artistes have yet to comment, refunds are being offered at the point of purchase. Shakira’s tour is slated to resume on May 31 in Washington D.C. Future Fenway Concert Series shows, including Hozier, The Lumineers and Jonas Brothers, are currently still on schedule.
