“Fast Forever”: Everything we know about the final “Fast & Furious” film

The “Family” may be eternal, but the Fast & Furious saga is finally approaching its last pit stop and after three decades of escalating stakes, the high-octane franchise is preparing for its final outing, per inverse.com.

While Fast X (2023) set the stage for a grand finale, the road to the finish line has been longer than anticipated. Despite Fast 8 crossing the $1 billion mark, recent sequels have faced diminishing returns against ballooning budgets. Now, lead star Vin Diesel has confirmed the details for the ultimate showdown: Fast Forever.

Initially slated for 2025, the franchise’s concluding chapter has shifted gears. Diesel has confirmed that “Fast Forever” will premiere on March 17, 2028. This marks a five-year gap since the cliffhanger ending of Fast X, giving the studio ample time to orchestrate a massive send-off.

Louis Leterrier returns to the director’s chair to resolve the chaos sown by Jason Momoa’s Dante Reyes. As the vengeful son of Fast Five villain Hernan Reyes, Dante has pushed Dominic Toretto further than any previous antagonist.

The film must address the literal “explosive” cliffhanger of the previous instalment, which left the fates of Dom, Little B and the core team – Roman, Han, Tej and Ramsey – hanging in the balance.

“Fast Forever” is expected to feature the franchise’s most expansive ensemble yet with icons like Vin Diesel (Dom), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty), and Jason Statham (Deckard Shaw) as well as returnees like Gal Gadot’s Gisele and Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs are both confirmed after their Fast X cameos.

In a move that has sparked significant discussion, Diesel revealed that Brian O’Conner will return. Using a mix of CGI and body doubles – similar to the techniques used in Furious 7 – the film aims to provide a final, meaningful farewell to the character.

While the main saga concludes with “Fast Forever,” the brand won’t stall entirely. Universal is currently developing several spin-offs, including a Hobbs & Reyes project and a long-gestating female-led film.

“The sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch the spin-offs,” Diesel noted, suggesting that while the main road ends here, the franchise still has plenty of off-ramps to explore.
