Erykah Badu set to release 1st album in 15 years

Erykah Badu is making her long-awaited return to the music scene with her first studio album in 15 years, exclusively produced by legendary beatmaker The Alchemist, per thelineofbestfit.com. The news broke on 20 March 2025, as Badu reflected on her career and the evolving hip-hop landscape in a candid Billboard profile.

The neo-soul icon, who last released a full-length album with New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) in 2015, shared her excitement about the upcoming project. “Rap is the people. Hip-hop is the people. It’s the folks. It’s the tribe,” she said, emphasising her connection to the genre’s roots and its new generation of artistes.

“I have the luxury of experiencing having children who I watch grow up and love and encourage very much, and I cannot separate them when I see artistes who are that age coming up. That’s how they feel. They are continuing the tradition.”

The Alchemist, known for his work with hip-hop heavyweights like Nas, Snoop Dogg and Earl Sweatshirt, will helm the production, marking a thrilling collaboration for fans of both artistes. Badu’s recent feature on Jamie xx’s single “F.U.” has already reignited excitement for her musical evolution, and this album promises to be a landmark moment in her storied career.
