Ed Sheeran is shaking up the music scene with a bold promise to drop fresh tracks every “two, three weeks,” giving fans a steady stream of sonic goodies leading up to his highly anticipated album, “Play,” per nme.com. The singer-songwriter spilled the tea on the Call Her Daddy podcast, hosted by Alex Cooper, where he dished on his latest single “Azizam” and teased a “more explorative” vibe for the forthcoming record.
Sheeran’s not playing it safe this time.
“It’s definitely different,” he told Cooper. “I’ve been more explorative with this album. I kind of had an attitude of ‘Why the fuck not?’”
From living in India and collaborating with local musicians to crafting “Azizam” with Persian producer Ilya, to dipping into Nashville’s country twang with “Old Phone,” Sheeran’s “Play” promises a wild, genre-hopping ride.
“The record is called Play, so it has to be playful, it has to be celebratory,” he added.
Fans won’t be left hanging for long. Following “Azizam,” Sheeran revealed “Old Phone” is up next—already debuted live on The Tonight Show—with another track hot on its heels.
“I’m less about single moments and more about letting people feel the breadth of the record,” he explained. “I’m very confident one of the songs will work.”
This rapid-fire release strategy marks a shift from his usual “here’s the single, here’s the album” playbook, offering a tantalising taste of “Play” before its still-secret drop date.
