British-Nigerian singer Ebubé is a man who admits to spending a great deal of time lost in thought. According to /ratedrnb.com, following his high-profile departure from the R&B sensation No Guidnce in 2024, the South London-born artist has used that introspection to fuel his burgeoning solo career. His latest project, the EP A Mile In My Mind, serves as a vulnerable map of his transition from group member to independent visionary.
The road to this release was not one Ebubé originally planned to walk alone. After three years and a string of viral hits with No Guidnce, a “creative misalignment” led to an unexpected exit. While he initially struggled with the sudden shift, the classically trained musician, who once balanced violin practice with hospital internships while dreaming of becoming a doctor, dived headfirst into the studio. He notes that while the split was a “scramble,” it forced him to reclaim a distinct vocal identity that had been suppressed to fit the group’s specific R&B mould.

A Mile In My Mind acts as a sonic evolution from his 2025 debut, Slow Jam Szn. The new tracks, including the standout “Driving You Home,” showcase a blend of ’90s R&B influences like Brandy and Usher alongside a growing obsession with the soul arrangements of Stevie Wonder. Ebubé describes the project as an “organised look at a scattered mind,” moving between lush vocal production and live instrumentation.
The title track holds particular weight for the singer, intended as an invitation for listeners to understand his internal world. Beyond the music, Ebubé has extended this vulnerability to his Substack newsletter, where he shares essays on “analysis paralysis” and finding meaning in uncertainty. For an artist who once viewed the music industry as “too gate-kept” to enter, he is now using his platform to encourage others to embrace their own introspective journeys.
With two solo EPs now under his belt, Ebubé remains in an experimental phase, refusing to be boxed into a single sub-genre. His focus remains on authenticity and a “slight business brain” as he observes which of his many sonic worlds resonates most with his growing fan base.
