Durban FilmMart 2024 set to unite African filmmakers, spotlight cinema on continent

The Durban FilmMart (DFM) 2024 is set to ignite the African film industry from July 19-22 in Durban, South Africa. This year’s event promises a vibrant agenda with 58 industry sessions, 170 speakers, 30 official projects and 58 emerging talents, according to the organisers.

Key highlights include networking opportunities, starting with the DW Akademie event at Elangeni Hotel and another by the French Institute at the Maharani Hotel. Dragon Productions and Media City will sponsor Coffee Connect sessions on July 20 and 21 at the Producers Lounge, fostering collaboration among producers and funders.

The NEFTi All Stars Competition screening and panel discussion on short films are must-attend events. Attendees can also explore diverse exhibitors such as the Durban Film Office and the National Film and Video Foundation. Free professional headshots will be offered by New Noise on July 21.

DFM Alumni Screenings will showcase outstanding works, including “Mother City,” “Rising Up at Night” and “Disco Afrika: A Malagasy Story.” Daily beach yoga sessions from 7-8am offer a refreshing start.
