Dr Dre joins the billionaire club

Dr Dre has finally secured his place in the “billionaire boys club”, according to the Forbes 2026 Billionaires List, per hiphopdx.com.

The legendary hip-hop producer and mogul is one of nearly 3,500 figures featured on this year’s list. Ranking 3,332nd, he shares his position with fellow musician Rihanna, former presidential advisor Jared Kushner, and DoorDash co-founder Stanley Tang.

According to Forbes, the 61-year-old’s 10-figure net worth is primarily derived from his record label, Aftermath Entertainment, and the audio giant Beats Electronics, which he co-founded in 1996 and 2006 respectively.

Dre is now one of only two rappers currently holding billionaire status. He joins JAY-Z, who maintains a commanding lead with a fortune of $2.8 billion. While Kanye West and Diddy have previously reached the milestone, recent controversies have seen their net worths significantly diminished.

Across the wider music industry, Dre becomes the sixth musician to achieve the feat, joining JAY-Z, Rihanna, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen.

This official valuation comes 12 years after Dre prematurely declared himself hip-hop’s first billionaire. In 2014, following the $3 billion sale of Beats to Apple, a leaked video featured the N.W.A icon bragging about the deal before it was finalised.

However, subsequent audits suggested the deal only boosted his wealth to $800 million at the time. Industry reports later claimed the leaked video gave Apple boss Tim Cook leverage to reduce the acquisition price by roughly $200 million.

While Dr Dre celebrates his new milestone, he remains a distant runner-up to the top of the global list. Elon Musk continues to lead the pack, with his stakes in Tesla and SpaceX driving a staggering net worth of $839 billion.
