Doechii’s “Anxiety” wins Best Hip-Hop & Best Choreography at 2025 MTV Video Music Awards

Doechii turned Newark’s Prudential Center into her personal victory parade Sunday, snagging two Moon Persons for breakout anthem “Anxiety” at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, per hip-hopvibe.com.

The Top Dawg Entertainment star—born Jaylah Hickmon—became the first female rapper ever to win both Best Hip-Hop and Best Choreography in the same night. The dual triumph caps a meteoric 12 months that already included a Grammy for mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal” and her first Billboard Hot 100 top-10 hit.

Produced by Kal Banx and Crooklin, “Anxiety” pairs haunting trap keys with a confessional hook that exploded on TikTok, soundtracking 4.1 million videos about mental-health struggles. Director-child choreographer Jamaica Craft’s one-take warehouse routine—featuring 30 dancers mirroring panic-attack breath patterns—earned near-perfect scores from every major dance outlet.

“I made this in my bedroom about panic attacks—look what God did,” the 25-year-old told the crowd before premiering a surprise remix featuring Missy Elliott.

The wins continue a landmark year for women in rap: females now claim six of 2025’s 10 highest-charting hip-hop songs, according to Billboard. Doechii’s rumoured “Live From The Swamp” arena tour—expected to be announced this week—has already sold out pre-registration slots in 12 markets.
