Diddy warns hip-hop is in a “dangerous place” on surprise Jay Electronica album

Sean “Diddy” Combs has delivered a stark warning about the music industry, making a surprise appearance on a new album from enigmatic rapper Jay Electronica from a Brooklyn jail cell, per hiphophero.com.

Combs, currently awaiting sentencing on federal sex trafficking charges, is featured on the opening track of A Written Testimony: Leaflets, which dropped unexpectedly on September 19. On the song, titled “Abracadabra,” the embattled music mogul declares, “Hip-hop is in a very, very dangerous place.” He is heard urging Electronica to release the project to “liven up they souls, lift up they vibration.”

The recording provides a stunning new platform for the Bad Boy Records founder, who is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center. After being found guilty this summer on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, Combs is scheduled for sentencing on October 3 and faces up to 20 years in prison.

The album also highlights the long-standing relationship between the artistes. On another track, Electronica alludes to their past, rapping, “I was living with Puff and cash and never showed up in the affidavit.”

Electronica, who nearly signed with Combs’ Bad Boy Records years ago before ultimately joining Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, surprise-released two other full projects over the weekend, ensuring Combs’ jailhouse commentary reached a wide audience.
