After a 20-year hiatus, legendary Hip-Hop production team Da Beatminerz is set to release a new album, “Stifled Creativity,” on June 21, 2024, per allhiphop.com. The first single, “My Year,” has already dropped, featuring powerhouse collaborations with De La Soul and Pharoahe Monch.
The new track also includes verses from Rasheed Chappell and Corey Glover of Living Colour. Released alongside an animated music video created by Anthony Edwards, the single is a testament to Da Beatminerz’s enduring influence on the Hip-Hop scene.
Da Beatminerz, comprising Walter “Mr. Walt” and Ewart “DJ Evil Dee” Dewgarde, along with early member Baby Paul, are renowned for shaping the ’90s streetwise Hip-Hop sound. Their latest collaboration highlights their continued relevance and the deep-seated relationships they’ve nurtured over decades in the industry.
“Been friends with De La since ’88 and Monch since ’87, so the relationship was already there,” Mr. Walt reminisced. He recounted how he met these Hip-Hop stalwarts at the record store he worked at, Music Factory in Jamaica, Queens. Despite health issues delaying the project, the long-awaited album is now more cherished than ever.
Anthony Edwards’s animation for “My Year” dynamically captures the essence of the artists’ lyrical prowess. He stated, “The music and lyrics help prompt some great results as well as help with breaking the scenes apart based on the rapper’s cadence and patterns,” enhancing the overall impact of the song.
Rasheed Chappell and Corey Glover’s unique contributions have rounded out the project, making it a celebration of both old and new friendships in the Hip-Hop community. The upcoming album promises to be a significant release, following their previous single “Seckle… Once Again” featuring KRS-One and Smif-N-Wessun.
Fans eagerly await “Stifled Creativity,” which marks Da Beatminerz’s return to full-length projects. Known for their seminal work with Smif-N-Wessun, Black Moon, and contemporary stars like Eminem and Ghostface Killah, Da Beatminerz are poised to once again make a major impact on the Hip-Hop landscape.
