Coldplay announce new album ‘Moon Music’

Coldplay has announced their highly anticipated 10th studio album, “Moon Music,” set to release on October 4, per variety.com. The first single, “feelslikeimfallinginlove,” will be available this Friday. Produced by Max Martin, known for his work with Britney Spears, the Weeknd, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande, this album follows their 2021 release, Music of the Spheres.

Renowned for their environmental consciousness, Coldplay has emphasised sustainability in their announcement. The band highlighted their ongoing efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of their current tour, achieving a 59% reduction in CO2e emissions compared to their previous stadium tour.

They’ve extended this commitment to the physical release of “Moon Music,” which will be the world’s first album released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, made from nine recycled PET-plastic bottles per copy. This innovative approach will prevent the creation of over 25 metric tonnes of virgin plastic and reduce manufacturing CO2 emissions by 85% per kilogram compared to traditional vinyl.

Additionally, Coldplay has partnered with The Ocean Cleanup for a unique format: the Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP. This edition uses 70% river plastic, intercepted from the Rio Las Vacas in Guatemala, preventing it from polluting the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean.

The CD versions of “Moon Music” will be the first to use EcoCD technology, made from 90% recycled polycarbonate, resulting in a 78% reduction in CO2 emissions per kilogram and avoiding over five metric tonnes of virgin plastic.

The first edition of “Moon Music,” available in four physical formats, will be limited and individually numbered. The Notebook Edition includes a casebound hardback book replicating Chris Martin’s studio notebook, with 28 pages of notes, lyrics, and illustrations, plus additional voice notes and demos.

“Moon Music” is available for pre-order now, with all formats clearly marked as First Edition.
