Universal Pictures has announced that audiences in the UK are to be treated to a nearly six-minute prologue of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, “The Odyssey,” variety.com reports.
The extended preview will debut on December 12 ahead of select Imax 70mm re-screenings of the classics Sinners and One Battle After Another.

This exclusive debut champions Nolan’s preferred format, as The Odyssey marks the first feature film shot entirely with Imax cameras. The director’s last blockbuster, Oppenheimer, saw the premium format contribute a massive 20% to its overall box office, with large auditoriums selling out for weeks.
The Prologue (Nearly Six Minutes): Exclusively before Imax 70mm screenings of Sinners and One Battle After Another from 12th December. It will continue to run before Imax screenings of Avatar 3 and is reportedly not coming to YouTube.
The Full-Length Trailer (Shorter Version): Will play ahead of all showings of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which begins its run on December 19.
The Film: The Odyssey is scheduled to land in cinemas on July 17, 2026.
This is not the first look at the ambitious project, following a minute-long teaser unveiled over the summer ahead of Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman.
An adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek poem, the film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and chronicles his long and perilous return home following the Trojan War.
The stellar ensemble cast includes Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, alongside Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal.
Given Nolan’s considerable stature in Hollywood, Universal took the unusual step of putting tickets on sale for select Imax 70mm screenings a full 12 months before the action-epic is slated to debut. Regular tickets are expected to go on sale closer to the film’s 2026 release date.
