Charli XCX unveils haunting new single “Wall of Sound”

Charli XCX has released “Wall of Sound,” the third glimpse into her highly anticipated companion album for Emerald Fennell’s upcoming film adaptation of Wuthering Heights, per pitchfork.com. The track follows previous singles “Chains of Love” and the John Cale-assisted “House,” building momentum ahead of the film and album’s joint release on February 13.

The Brat star has traded neon dancefloors for a more atmospheric, gothic landscape. Writing on Substack, Charli described the project as a departure into a world that is “undeniably raw, wild, sexual and British.” She noted that the creative process required a total shift in persona: “Without a cigarette or a pair of sunglasses in sight, it was all totally other from the life I was currently living.”

Produced by long-time collaborator Finn Keane, “Wall of Sound” leans into orchestral tension rather than electronic maximalism. The track serves as a sonic anchor for Fennell’s reimagining of the Brontë classic, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

The full 12-track album is expected to arrive on Valentine’s Day weekend, marking Charli’s first major body of work since her 2024 cultural phenomenon.
