Celine Dion’s sister, Claudette, recently provided a much-anticipated update on the iconic singer’s health. Over six months ago, Celine announced her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare and incurable neurological disorder that affects motor function.
In an interview with Le Journal de Montreal, Claudette shared that their sister, Linda, has moved into Celine’s home to help with her care. Linda is now living with Celine and her three sons, René-Charles, Eddy and Nelson.
Despite battling this challenging disease, Celine remains dedicated and determined to find a solution. Claudette revealed that Celine is closely following top researchers in the field to explore potential treatments, but unfortunately, they have not yet found a medication that truly works.
Celine’s decision to step away from performing comes as no surprise to Claudette, who believes that rest is crucial for her recovery. She admires Celine’s discipline in every aspect of her life and emphasises the importance of listening to her body and heart’s signals.
The 55-year-old singer initially shared her diagnosis in an emotional Instagram video in December. Stiff Person Syndrome causes involuntary stiffness and painful muscle spasms, often triggered by startle or emotional stimuli, as explained by the Mayo Clinic.
Celine’s health issues have significantly impacted her daily life and her ability to perform on stage. She postponed her European tour in December and later had to cancel all 42 remaining dates on her Courage World Tour in May. Apologising to her fans, she assured them that she’s not giving up and is determined to return stronger.
Despite the challenges, Celine has been resilient and creative. Amid her battle with the disease, she released new music, including the track “Love Again,” which serves as the lead single for the soundtrack of her film “Love Again.” The film, a romantic comedy written and directed by Jim Strouse, stars Celine as a matchmaker, helping Priyanka Chopra and Sam Heughan find love.
Throughout this journey, Celine Dion’s voice remains as powerful as ever, and her unwavering spirit continues to inspire her fans worldwide.
