CCA Lagos, Goethe Institut present “Sea Never Dry” exhibition featuring Femi Odugbemi

The Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA), Lagos, in collaboration with the Goethe Institut, Nigeria, is set to inaugurate a compelling group exhibition titled ‘Sea Never Dry.’

Exploring the cultural and historical resonances of the popular Bar Beach in Victoria Island, the exhibition delves into broader narratives of resilience, displacement and belonging within Lagos.

A notable feature of the exhibition is the inclusion of filmmaker Femi Odugbemi’s short drama, Bar Beach Blues. Odugbemi uses Bar Beach as a metaphorical backdrop to probe societal corruption. Through its narrative, the drama highlights how ethical compromise and moral decay ripple through individuals and communities, suggesting that the “coastline of glamour conceals currents of injustice.”

Odugbemi is a celebrated writer, filmmaker, television producer and photographer whose career is dedicated to telling authentic stories that inspire, educate and preserve culture. His work profoundly embodies the spirit of African storytelling.

The opening day of “Sea Never Dry” is scheduled for Friday, November 1 by 4pm at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
