Up-and-coming African artists can now submit their works for the second edition of the Rising Star challenge.
Organised by Ghanaian cultural festival Afrochella in partnership with US music streaming and audio distribution platform Audiomack, the contest looks to provide a springboard for undiscovered musicians on the continent.
The ultimate winner will walk away with a cash prize of $1 000, a studio session at BBNZ Live in Accra and an artist feature on the Audiomack platform. Additionally, 25 of the best submissions will be included in a curated Audiomack playlist from 3 January to 11 January 2021.
“We are proud to be able to provide a platform for the discovery of fresh and exciting music talents in Africa. Our Rising Star challenge is in line with our vision to ensure the delivery of authentic and quality music to the global audience. Afrochella presents an opportunity for Audiomack to accelerate our commitment of investing in rising artists and ultimately promote African music,” Audiomack Africa head of operations and commercial partnerships Adeyemi Adetunji said.
Afrochella founder Abdul Karim-Abdullah added: “We are excited to combine efforts with Audiomack to help provide exposure and support to talented artists across Africa. We believe that Afrochella and Audiomack’s shared value in spotlighting and elevating local talent will drive the music ecosystem forward across the region.”
British-Ghanaian producer Juls, singer King Promise and Audiomack Africa content strategy manager Olive Liv Chisomebi Uche constitute the competition’s jury this year and will be responsible for selecting the best entries. The Rising Star winners will be announced on 12 January.
