Caine Prize makes open call for 25th anniversary editing programme

The Caine Prize for African Writing has announced an open call for applications to its special Online Editing Programme, set to commence in Autumn 2025. This initiative is a cornerstone of the Prize’s 25th anniversary celebrations, significantly expanding its reach to emerging African writers.

In a departure from previous editions where participants were exclusively chosen from prize submissions, this year’s programme welcomes applications from the public. This offers a unique chance for aspiring authors to receive personalised editing support from the acclaimed editor, Vimbai Shire. The application window is currently open and will close on Monday, July 28.

The 12-week programme is meticulously designed to nurture fiction writing, guiding selected writers from early drafts to publishable short stories. Participants will benefit from one-on-one guidance, group workshops, and comprehensive verbal and written feedback.

Beyond editorial support, the programme aims to provide invaluable industry insights and foster a robust network among African writers. This will be achieved through interactive Q&A sessions and masterclasses led by prominent figures in contemporary literature.
