Antoinette Brooks has won the 2022/23 Jericho Prize for Best Picture Book Script (3+) with her heartwarming authentically told story Friday Night Cake.
The Jericho Prize is a competition founded by former teacher and educational book editor Fabia Turner, which aims to find and showcase new British writers of African or Caribbean descent.
The prize includes $1000 USD and detailed script feedback, as well as a chance to chat with children’s book editor and author Naomi Jones.
The competition received entries between 400-3000 words, with twenty entries longlisted, who may discuss their work with the judges. The Jericho Prize is an important platform for underrepresented voices in the literary world, and Brooks’ win is a testament to the power of diverse storytelling.
