Brooke Shields has disclosed that a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon performed an unauthorised intimate procedure during what was meant to be a routine surgery in a shocking revelation from her upcoming memoir, per boredpanda.com. The 59-year-old acclaimed actress and model details the disturbing incident in her new book, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman, set for release on January 14.
According to Shields, she had originally consented to labia reduction surgery due to experiencing discomfort and physical issues. However, during a post-operative checkup, the surgeon proudly informed her that he had performed an additional vaginal rejuvenation procedure without her knowledge or consent while she was under anesthesia.
“He informed me that he threw in a little bonus,” Shields told Us Weekly, describing the unauthorised procedure as “irreversible” and likening it to “an invasion” and assault. The actress revealed she struggled to discuss the incident with her husband, producer Chris Henchy, for “the longest time” due to feelings of shame and anger.
The unauthorised procedure, known as vaginal rejuvenation, involves treatments to alter vaginal diameter and is typically performed for specific medical or cosmetic reasons. While the surgery occurred two decades ago, Shields has chosen not to pursue legal action, stating, “I don’t want anybody else telling me what I have to do.”
This revelation comes as part of Shields’ broader discussion about bodily autonomy and women’s health in her memoir. Despite her embarrassment about sharing such intimate details, she emphasises the importance of speaking out to protect other women. “If we are to change the way we approach and talk about women’s health, then we need to bring up the uncomfortable but very real issues,” she writes.
