Britney Spears sells music rights in landmark 9-figure deal

Britney Spears has sold her song catalogue and various royalty rights to Primary Wave, per variety.com. While representatives for both parties declined to comment, industry insiders estimate the deal is worth in the low nine figures (upwards of $100 million).

The agreement reportedly covers Spears’ publishing rights and her share of artist royalties. While Sony Music retains control of her master recordings, Spears holds songwriting credits on nearly 40 tracks, including the hit ballad “Everytime” and collaborations like “Me Against the Music”.

This move follows a period of professional stillness for the pop icon. Spears hasn’t released a studio album since 2016’s Glory or performed live since 2018. Since the termination of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, she has largely avoided the spotlight, recently telling fans she “will never perform in the US again.”

The acquisition by Primary Wave opens new doors for the exploitation of her hits, likely coinciding with the upcoming Universal Pictures biopic based on her memoir, The Woman in Me.
