Britney Spears has issued a harrowing statement on social media, claiming she is “lucky to be alive” following the treatment she received from her family, per music-news.com.
In a candid Instagram post shared on Wednesday, the 44-year-old pop icon reflected on the isolation she experienced during her 13-year conservatorship. Sharing an image of an adult holding a newborn’s hand, Spears spoke of the deep scars left by those closest to her.

“For those of you in your family that have said to help you is to isolate you… they were wrong,” she wrote. “We can forgive as people, but you don’t ever forget. I’m incredibly lucky to even be alive with how my family treated me, and now I’m scared of them.”
The “Toxic” singer, who has remained largely estranged from her parents, Lynne and Jamie Spears, since the legal arrangement ended in 2021, expressed doubt that her relatives would ever account for their actions. “No matter what [God] says, they will never take responsibility for what they did,” she added.
Despite the heavy subject matter, there have been recent glimmers of reconciliation elsewhere in her life. Over the Christmas period, Spears indicated she was on better terms with her 19-year-old son, Jayden James.
The star concluded her message with a minor health update, noting she has been unable to perform her trademark choreography recently. “I haven’t danced in a month because I broke my toe twice,” she revealed.
