Brandy is set to receive the prestigious Black Music Icon Award at the fourth annual Recording Academy Honors this month, per ratedrnb.com.
The ceremony, hosted by the Black Music Collective, will take place on January 29 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, just days before the 2026 Grammy Awards. Brandy, known as the “Vocal Bible” of R&B, will be joined by gospel legend Kirk Franklin, who also receives the Icon Award, and visionary producer Pharrell Williams, who is set to be presented with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award.

“This honour means more than words—standing on the shoulders of those who paved the way,” Brandy remarked. “Thank you to the Recording Academy for seeing me and honouring the journey.”
The awards recognise creators whose innovation and service have shaped the global music industry. Kirk Franklin’s recognition comes after a year’s delay; he was originally scheduled for the 2025 gala before it was postponed due to the Los Angeles wildfire response.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. praised the trio as “true visionaries,” noting that their artistry continues to inspire generations. Established in 2020, the Black Music Collective aims to amplify Black voices within the Academy. Previous honorees include industry titans such as Jay-Z, Mariah Carey and Missy Elliott.
The news follows a busy season for Brandy, who recently completed The Boy Is Mine Tour with Monica. Fans can also look forward to her debut memoir, “Phases,” arriving on March 31.
