Universal Pictures has greenlit an official biopic charting the meteoric rise of Bon Jovi, with the full cooperation of frontman Jon Bon Jovi and access to the band’s legendary hits, per parade.com.
The film will focus on the group’s formative years, tracing their journey from the local New Jersey circuit to becoming one of the most successful rock acts of the 1980s.

Born Jon Bongiovi, the aspiring rock star cut his teeth at the famed Power Station recording studio in Manhattan. While sweeping floors and observing greats like Aerosmith, he recorded early demos, including the future hit “Runaway”. The track eventually gained traction on New York radio, providing the catalyst for the band’s formation.
Keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, bassist Alec John Such, and guitarist Richie Sambora soon joined, creating the classic line-up that would define the era’s arena-rock sound.
The band’s global breakthrough arrived with their third studio album, Slippery When Wet. Featuring anthems like Livin’ on a Prayer and You Give Love a Bad Name, the record sold over 30 million copies worldwide. To date, Bon Jovi has sold more than 130 million albums and earned inductions into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The project features a script by Cody Brotter (Drudge) and will be produced by Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra. Chopra previously directed the 2024 Hulu documentary series Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. While that series spanned the band’s entire 40-year career, this new feature film will strictly spotlight the grit and glamour of their early path to stadium-filling fame.
