BNXN has officially dropped his highly anticipated sophomore album, “Captain,” now available on all major streaming platforms. The 16-track project showcases the artiste’s continued evolution, featuring collaborations with leading Afrobeats acts such as Seyi Vibez, Victony, FOLA, and the renowned Soweto Gospel Choir.
“Captain” is a reflective journey for BNXN, drawing inspiration from the highs and lows of his rise as a revered figure in the Afrobeats scene. The album sees the Afrobeats sensation experimenting with new sounds and transcending genre boundaries, evident in tracks like “Cutesy,” “Totori” and “Cough Syrup” featuring Victony. According to Teen Vogue, BNXN “has stayed true to his Afro-fusion background, refusing to stick to a specific sound and choosing instead to infuse his work with a recognisable sense of his Nigerian identity.”
The album boasts a diverse roster of producers, including Jiggy (known for his work with Cash Cobain and Ice Spice), Vampire Craze, Sbthaproducer, BlaiseBeatz, Rymez, Young Soul, SB, Kel P, Synx, Tuzi, Kdagreat, Gemini Major, Semzi, Cesar, and Enta. This collaborative effort has resulted in a project that New Wave Magazine describes as “not formulaic… It’s alive, and it’s made a home in a voice we’ve come to know and trust.”
BNXN himself shared insights into the album’s personal significance. “This album represents who I am right now and everything I’ve been through to get here,” he explained. “It’s the most honest I’ve ever been in my music. I want my fans to feel every high and every low, this is my story, the story of the captain.”
“Captain” was preceded by a string of successful singles, including “Phenomena” (2024), “Fi Kan We Kan” featuring Rema (2024), “Cutesy” (2025), and “Very Soon” featuring FOLA (2025). These tracks have already amassed an impressive 185 million streams across digital platforms, setting the stage for “Captain” to be one of Nigeria’s most significant releases of 2025. Top Charts Africa notes the album “feels personal, like he’s letting us into a more vulnerable part of himself. It’s definitely different from what we’ve heard from him before, and it works.”
Following the album’s release, BNXN is set to embark on a North American tour in August, with stops in major cities including Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Dallas, Montreal, Chicago, Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Edmonton. Tickets are available at bnxnlive.com.
