Awele and friends present “Wake Up!” art exhibition at Angels and Muse

To run from March 21 – 28, 2026

On March 21st, 2026, Angels & Muse – 5, Sumbo Jibowu, Off Ribadu, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos will host a group exhibition proceeding under the theme – “Wake Up!”

Curated by Awele Onwordi, artist and first-class graduate of Middlesex University, the exhibition is scheduled to run from March 21 – 28, 2026.

“Wake Up!”, is presented as a contemporary art and photography exhibition showcasing the voices of emerging Nigerian creatives.

Featuring works created across photography, digital art and painting, this exhibition seeks to excite conversations around contemporary and traditional narratives of Nigerian Art  by highlighting works shaped by youth culture, modern realities, digital influence, and evolving identity.

The exhibition, the curator says, will serve as a bridge between generations – inviting audiences to witness how Nigerian art is being redefined by a new wave of artists who are unafraid to experiment, disrupt, and speak honestly about their world in a new visual language and attitude.

Commenting on the exhibition, Awele said, “I’m curating this exhibition to spotlight emerging Nigerian artists and give them a platform where more people can discover their works. Wake Up! is about pushing new talent into the light and creating space for fresh voices and perspectives to be seen.”

Speaking further the curator noted that “our mission is to provide visibility, opportunity, and creative freedom for emerging Nigerian artists and photographers by creating an inclusive exhibition space that celebrates innovation, experimentation, and authentic storytelling.”

The artists include Ade(To)Juwon Anthony Adeniyi, Franklyn Okoye, Charles Lasisi, Ajilore Kehinde, Chuka Onwordi, Joshua Bakare, Lohi Simone and Awele Onwordi

Wake Up! aims to challenge outdated artistic norms, encourage inter-generational dialogue, and inspire young creatives to see their work as culturally valuable and globally relevant.
