James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire & Ash has joined one of Hollywood’s most exclusive circles. According to newsweek.com, after 70 days in cinemas, the 20th Century Studios threequel crossed the $400 million mark at the domestic box office on Thursday, February 26.
The film, which debuted on 19 December 10, 2025, maintained a vice-like grip on the charts, holding the number one spot for five consecutive weekends. By earning $112,878 this past Thursday, its North American total reached $400,005,883. To date, only 55 films in cinematic history have surpassed this threshold.

While the milestone is significant, Fire & Ash faces the daunting task of living up to its predecessors.
Avatar (2009): Revolutionised 3D cinema with a global haul of $2.7 billion ($749 million domestic).
Avatar: The Way of Water (2023): Followed suit with $2.3 billion worldwide ($684 million domestic).
At a global take of $1.47 billion, the third instalment is undeniably a hit, comfortably covering its estimated $400 million production budget. While Avatar 4 has yet to receive an official green light, these robust figures make another return to Pandora almost inevitable.
The director’s slate remains characteristically ambitious. Beyond the world of the Na’vi, Cameron is developing an adaptation of Chris Pellegrino’s Ghosts of Hiroshima and a long-awaited sequel to Alita: Battle Angel.
Fans won’t have to wait long for his next project, however. Cameron’s 3D concert film, Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, is set to arrive in cinemas on May 8, 2026.
