Asake and Travis Scott’s collaboration “Active” has soared to the top spot on the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs chart, marking a significant milestone for both artists, per billboard.com. The song’s ascent from number eight to number 1 on the August 24 chart comes on the heels of Asake’s latest album release, Lungu Boy.
The track’s success is attributed to a remarkable surge in both streaming and sales figures. During the week of August 9-15, “Active” amassed an impressive 2.9 million official US streams, representing a staggering 198% increase from the previous week. The song’s prominence on major Afrobeats and African music playlists, including Apple Music’s “Afrobeats Hits,” further propelled its popularity.
This achievement marks the first number-one hit for both Asake and Travis Scott on the US Afrobeats Songs chart. Nigerian artiste Asake had previously peaked at number 6 with “Palazzo” and “Terminator,” while this collaboration represents Scott’s debut appearance on the chart.
“Active” ends the long-standing dominance of Tyla’s “Water,” which had held the top position for 44 consecutive weeks. This shift in the chart’s landscape is significant, considering the previous 58-week reign of Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down.”
The success of “Active” is part of a larger impact made by Asake’s Lungu Boy. Nine tracks from the album have debuted on the chart, showcasing the Nigerian artiste’s growing influence in the Afrobeats genre.
