Amazon has announced the return of its Kindle Storyteller Award, a literary prize that celebrates the best of self-published storytelling, per channelx.world. For the ninth year running, the award will recognise outstanding writing in any genre, with a prize fund of £20,000 up for grabs.
The competition is open to authors aged 18 or over who self-publish their work through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) between May 1st and August 31st, 2025. Readers will play a crucial role in selecting the initial shortlist, with bestseller rankings and reader reviews taken into account. A panel of esteemed judges, including top figures from the world of publishing and Amazon Books, will then decide the winner.
Previous winners, such as JD Kirk and Peter Gibbons, have gone on to achieve great success, with Kirk’s win in 2024 leading to a surge in readership and the release of his first psychological thriller later this year. According to Jen Barrett, UK KDP Manager, “Being able to champion authors at different stages of their careers is always a highlight, and it’s exciting to see the wide variety of stories entered for the award.”
The award is open to writers of all levels, from debut authors to established authors with multiple series. To enter, titles must be enrolled in Kindle Direct Publishing Select while they are in the competition. The winner will be announced in November 2025.
JD Kirk, the 2024 winner, said, “Winning the prize helped bring new readers to my books, and with the support of them, my existing fans, and Amazon’s KDP team, the success of my self-published titles has only continued to grow.”
Entry deadline is August 31.
