Afreximbank’s Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) has unveiled “One Drum,” an extraordinary Extended Play (EP) that celebrates the cultural ties binding Africa and its diaspora. Released on August 16, 2024, according to an APO Group statement, this ambitious project brings together an impressive array of talent from across the globe, including the Marley family, Scorpion Kings, Sofiya Nzau, Flavour and Olodum.
The EP, produced under the auspices of CANEX Creations Incorporated, aims to support the commercialization of intellectual property assets in Global Africa. It features five tracks that blend diverse genres and musical traditions, from Afrobeats and Amapiano to reggae and Electronic Dance Music (EDM).
“One Drum” pays homage to the shared history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, highlighting the enduring rhythms and musical traditions that have traversed continents. The project showcases the magical drums of Brazil, the reggae and soul of the Caribbean, and the global appeal of African beats.
The star-studded lineup includes Brazilian percussion group Olodum, South African music pioneer DJ Oskido, Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Flavour, and Kenyan EDM artist Sofiya Nzau. The Marley family is represented by Stephen, YG, and Jo Mersa Marley, while South Africa’s Amapiano giants, the Scorpion Kings, bring their innovative sound to the mix.
Each track on the EP offers a unique musical experience. “Let’s Dance” combines samba, rumba, and Afrobeats, while “Coming Home” features an emotional Afro-reggae sound. “Stop Stressin” delivers a message of resilience through reggae and Afro-house, “Money (Besa)” showcases Sofiya Nzau’s EDM prowess, and “Afro-Wave” blends Afrohouse with Amapiano.
The EP not only demonstrates musical excellence but also emphasises themes of cultural pride, resilience, and the power of collaboration. It serves as a testament to the universal language of music and its ability to connect people across borders.
“One Drum” is now available on all major digital streaming platforms, with exclusive behind-the-scenes content accessible through CANEX’s social media channels.
