Aesop Rock drops surprise album “I Heard It’s a Mess There Too”

Aesop Rock has quietly shared a new 12-song album, I Heard It’s a Mess There Too, marking a quick and unexpected follow-up to May’s Black Hole Superette, according to a pitchfork.com report . The project is now widely available across digital streaming platforms via Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Fans can listen to the full album now. A video for the track “Full House Pinball,” directed by Justin “Coro” Kaufman, is also available for viewing.

In a press release, the rapper discussed the genesis of the title: “The phrase ‘I Heard It’s a Mess There Too’ started as a lyric, but it got its hooks in me soon after. It felt familiar, like something I’d said a thousand times while checking in with friends across different cities. The more I sat with it, the more it started to feel like the center of this project… It’s about observation and communication.”

He also noted a shift in the album’s sound, stating, “Sonically, I wanted a reset—cleaner beats, more space, fewer layers. Just enough to get a wave rolling and not much more.”

I Heard It’s a Mess There Too solidifies Aesop Rock’s reputation for prolific, critically acclaimed work, which includes his album Labor Days, featured at No. 58 in Pitchfork’s “The 100 Best Rap Albums of All Time.”
