Marco Sanges’ portraits shine light on homelessness ahead of charity auction

A captivating photo exhibition, One Step Closer, has debuted at the Dimbola Museum in Freshwater, Isle of Wight, ahead of a charity auction aimed at supporting London-based nonprofit Under One Sky, which aids the homeless community, per bbc.co.uk. The collection, created by acclaimed photographer Marco Sanges, features intimate close-ups of high-profile figures, including Bob Geldof, Elizabeth McGovern, Jeremy Irons and Clare Balding.

Sanges described the project as a “deeply spiritual experience,” capturing a spectrum of emotions reflected in the stark contrasts of his portraits. The initiative, organised by Always In Motion Ltd, seeks to reshape the narrative around homelessness and transform lives through art.

The Dimbola Museum, once the home of Victorian photography pioneer Julia Margaret Cameron, is hosting the exhibition alongside Lee Miller’s wartime fashion photography collection, Style is Strength. Julian Bell, Dimbola’s president, praised Sanges’ work as “rapturous, hilarious and scary,” highlighting the unique essence of each subject.

The portraits will be auctioned later in May, with proceeds benefiting Under One Sky.

The collaborative exhibit runs until 18 May, offering a powerful blend of art and philanthropy.
