Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ breaks records with 2b Spotify streams

Afrobeats continues its global rise with significant achievements. Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ has reached over 2 billion streams on Spotify, marking another milestone for the genre, per musically.com. The combined streams include 590.6 million for the original track and 1.41 billion for the remix featuring Selena Gomez. This remix made history last September as the first African artist-led track to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.

“Calm Down” has significantly boosted Mavin Records, which celebrated six billion streams last August. The label announced its sale of a majority stake to Universal Music Group this February, with the deal expected to finalise soon.

The success of “Calm Down” extends beyond Spotify, with the original version garnering 598 million views on YouTube and the remix amassing 905 million views. These numbers underscore the song’s global impact and Afrobeats’ growing influence in the music industry.
