délé jẹ́gẹ́dẹ́’s Shots FiredAgora Gallery, a contemporary fine art gallery in Chelsea, New York City, presents The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition, a juried exhibition of paintings, sculptures, and photographs in a wide range of styles and media.
This is the 37th edition of the annual fine arts competition exhibition, which provides a select group of artists with the opportunity to showcase their work in the heart of Chelsea, New York’s very own art district, features the work of Nigerian-born artist délé jẹ́gẹ́dẹ́.
The exhibition will run from August 22 to August 29, 2023, with an opening reception on Thursday, August 24, 6-8 PM.
The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition is an established event that has been attracting artists from all over the world since 1984. The competition aims to promote artistic excellence and diversity, as well as to provide exposure and recognition to talented and emerging artists. The winners were handpicked among hundreds of international and local applicants by an esteemed panel of jurors. The judging committee is comprised of Julie Reiss, art historian, editor, and former educator at Christie’s Education’s MA program; and Angel Bellaran, curator, visual activist, and academic teaching at the non-profits organisation Studio Montclair and former director of the School of Visual Arts’ MA in Curatorial Practice.
délé jẹ́gẹ́dẹ́’s work reveals the stark differences and muffled contrasts of living and working in the United States as a black man. His paintings, which cast a provocative light on how social, religious, and political relationships respond to societal issues.
The exhibition features the works of other artists like Marc Vuillermoz, Lisa
Jana Cruder, Sunday Olaniyi, Spencer Frazer, Carol Levine, Suyeon Jang, John Mark Llanos,Claudia Behrensen, Michele Tejuola Spindle, among others who represent various countries and cultures, such as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Poland, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States. The artworks on display range from realistic to abstract, from traditional to contemporary, from figurative to conceptual. They explore themes such as nature, identity, society, spirituality, and more. They also demonstrate the artists’ mastery of different techniques and materials, such as oil painting, acrylic painting, watercolour painting, mixed media, collage, digital art, photography, sculpture, metalwork, woodwork, ceramic and glass .
