Los Angeles has established a motion picture museum, which is due to open today, Thursday, September 30 in the city of dreams.
According to reports, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures was founded by the US film organisation of the same name that hosts the renowned Academy Awards. The annual awards ceremony is one of the world’s most spectacular media events, with the Oscar — a gold-plated statuette — considered the industry’s most prestigious award.
DW reports that the US film industry had already begun pushing for its own museum as far back as 1929, two years after the Academy was founded. But those plans soon fizzled out, with a later attempt in the 1960s falling through, too.
The museum will serve as a new home for countless cinema-related iconic items.
