The 2020 Ake Book and Arts Festival kicks off today the 22nd of October.
.The renowned event which is scheduled to hold from the 22nd to the 25th of October virtually, will feature a plethora of conversations across different panels and experts.
The event opened officially with well-wishes from Doron Avni, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Emerging Markets of Google. The online address made reference to the need, now more than ever, to have relevant conversations that affect Africans everywhere. Also, mention was made of honouring legends of the African narrative like Fela Kuti and Professor Woke Soyinka.
But in the wake of the horrific killing of #EndSars protesters at the Lekki area of Lagos, Nigeria., A few changes have been made to the event line-uo to reflect the mood and times we are in.
The organisers announced this morning that they will be suspending the Welcome Ceremony which was scheduled to take place at 4pm on 22 October 2020. In its place, they will be hosting a live event with conversations that speak to the moment we are in.
