50 Cent wins $1b lawsuit against former drug kingpin

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has emerged triumphant in a high-stakes $1 billion lawsuit, putting an end to a long-running feud with former drug kingpin Cory “Ghost” Holland, per hotnewhiphop.com. The case, which revolved around Jackson’s hit TV series Power, has captivated the entertainment industry and legal circles alike.

Holland had alleged that Jackson and his collaborators had stolen the plot of Power from his own life story, claiming that he had shared details of his experiences on a 2007 CD titled “Blasphemy.” However, Judge Analisa Torres ruled in favour of Jackson, dismissing Holland’s claims of defamation and copyright infringement.

The court’s decision hinged on the fact that Power never explicitly mentions Holland by name, and that many elements of the show’s narrative could be considered coincidental. This ruling not only vindicates Jackson but also safeguards the creative integrity of one of television’s most influential series in recent years.

Power, which has catapulted 50 Cent from music icon to multimedia powerhouse, follows the double life of James “Ghost” St. Patrick, a successful nightclub owner entangled in New York City’s drug trade. The show’s exploration of themes such as loyalty, betrayal and the pursuit of power resonated with audiences worldwide.

In a separate but related case, Holland’s accusations of harassment and threats against Jackson were also dismissed. Judge Torres found no evidence of imminent harmful contact, further solidifying Jackson’s legal triumph.

This landmark victory not only adds an estimated $1 billion to Jackson’s already impressive net worth but also cements his position as a formidable force in the entertainment industry. •Featured image: 50 Cent/Hip Hop Hero /YouTube Still
