The Committee for Relevant Art (CORA)-Nigeria Prize for Literature (NPL) Book Party, a prestigious celebration of literary excellence, is set to take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 1pm. This year, the spotlight falls on Children’s Literature, with 11 outstanding authors longlisted for the Nigeria Prize for Literature.
Held at the iconic Shell Hall, MUSON Centre in Onikan, Lagos, the event promises to be a vibrant literary feast, bringing together authors, literary enthusiasts and the general public for an afternoon of performances, wining and dining.

Among the longlisted works are A Father’s Pride by Ndidi Chiazor-Enenmor, The Road Does Not End by Familoni Oluranti Olubunmi, Mighty Mite and Golden Jewel by Henry Akubuiro, Village Boy by Anietie Usen and The Magic Jalabiya by Ayo Oyeku.
These books, along with others like Wish Maker by Uchechuckwu Peter Umezurike, Risi Recycle – The DustBin Girl by Temiloluwa Adeshina, The Third side of a Coin by Hyginus Ekwuazi, The Children at the IDP Camp by Olatunbosun Taofeek, Grandma and the Moon’s Hidden Secret Jumoke Verissimo and Bode’s Birthday Party by Akanni Festus Olaniyi represent the pinnacle of children’s literature in Nigeria today.
The Nigeria Prize for Literature, inaugurated in 2004 and sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited, is the most prestigious literary prize in Africa, with a prize money of $100,000. The CORA-NPL Book Party, launched in 1996, serves as a platform for the public to engage with the finest literary works, fostering a deeper appreciation for Nigerian literature.
CORA has been at the forefront of promoting Nigerian arts and culture. Known for organising the Lagos Book & Art Festival (LABAF) annually since 1999, CORA continues to be a beacon of artistic excellence. This year’s edition of LABAF, themed “Breakout: Hope is a Stubborn Thing,” is scheduled for November 11-17, 2024, promising yet another culturally enriching experience.
